• VISITS DRUG DE-ADDICTION & REHAB CENTER
JALANDHAR, AUGUST 2: Taking stock of the functioning of the Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Center, Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh on Tuesday emphasized that skill development initiatives should be revived in the centre to further motivate the addicted youngsters towards the professional skills as well as engaging them in different work streams.
While visiting the Centre located on Lamba Pind Chowk-Jandu Singha Road, Deputy Commissioner also interacted with the doctor, counselor and other staff to enquire about the current process of rehabilitation. Jaspreet Singh went to the registration counter and after that also interacted with the recovering addicts to enquire about their health.
Expressing immense satisfaction over the process being followed to get them de-addicted, the inmates apprised the Deputy Commissioner that they were recovering well courtesy the care and recreational activities including sports and gym inside the center. They said that a special counseling session was also being held daily to encourage them towards the main stream vis-à-vis healthy lifestyle. The Deputy Commissioner also took a round of gym, counseling room and sports activity area and appreciated these activities for the overall development and welfare of these youngsters.
Emphasising the need to restart the skill development activities inside the center, the Deputy Commissioner also directed the officials to check the modalities for initiating mobile repair unit and some other skill development training. This endeavour can be helpful for the inmates to become self-reliant on employment front after de-addiction, said Jaspreet Singh adding that these facilities could be an opportunity for them to start a new chapter in their life. He said that the District Administration would extend all possible help to the center for bright future of these youngsters. He asked the Medical Officer to prepare a report to start skill development activities in the center as soon as possible so that requisite steps could be ensured.
