Two day international hybrid workshop inaugurated at DAV University, Jalandhar

JALANDHAR (RAWAT)- DAV University, Jalandhar in collaboration with Trust for Education and Training in Cytometry (TETC) inaugurated two day international hybrid workshop on Flow Cytometry and its Applications in Biological Research under the able guidance of Padam Shree Awardee Dr. Punam Suri, Chancellor DAV University and President, DAV CMC New Delhi, and Dr. Awtar Krishan, Patron TETC. The occasion was graced by the presence of Padam Shree Awardee Dr. R.C. Sobti, Former VC Panjab University and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. Dr. Rekha Gour, Co-founder Trustee TETC, Dr. Hemant Agarwal, Founder Director, Flow Cytometry Solutions, Dr. Ritesh Kumar, Application Manager, Beckman Coulter, Dr. Shashank Mishra, Application Specialist, Beckman Coulter were the resource persons. Dr. William Telford, National Institute of Health, USA was present online. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Vice Chancellor DAV University, followed by lamp lighting ceremony. Dr. Rishi, along with Dr. K.N. Kaul, Registrar, Dr. R.K. Seth, Dean Academics and Dr. Tejinder Kaur, Convener of the workshop welcomed the delegates with planters as a token of thanks and regard. The Vice Chancellor also welcomed the participants and introduced the audience to the DAV legacy. She also motivated them to learn and utilize the applications of flow cytometry for the benefit of the society.

Dr. Rekha Gour and Dr. Hemant Agarwal delivered their opening remarks about the workshop. They introduced the audience about flow cytometry & its applications and motivated them to work hard and make a career in cytometry. This was followed by a keynote address by the chief guest Dr. R.C. Sobti. Dr. Sobti briefed the audience about the history and current status of flow cytometry in India and rest of the world. He motivated the students to take responsibility and contribute towards betterment of the society using the knowledge gained from academics and research. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. R.K. Seth. This was followed by three technical and hands-on training sessions on flow cytometer. The hands-on training comprised of experiments on detecting biological cells, and analysis of cell growth and death. More than 150 participants from different universities, colleges and industries of the region attended the first day with full zeal and enthusiasm. The day concluded with a special lecture by Dr. William Telford on the topic Cell Death Analysis using Flow Cytometry.
